Open plains

There are some areas that are open and therefore provide habitat to
other species. The open spaces were originally fields and were
converted back into bushveld by natural succession. You will notice
that the trees are all around the same and and there is no distinct
canopy. Species diversity is also still lowe as pioneer grasses are
still in place. Natural succession will eventually re-establish the
apex community.

During this time of year, the bushveld turns a lighter shade as all of
the Wild Pears begin to bloom. It is a wonderfull sight to behold.

Meet the family. The white rhino in front's name is Big boy. Any
guesses why? In the back are two ostriches, two impala, a wildebeest
and three kudus.
